Car Loan For People With Bad Credit

Auto Loans still Possible?

Getting a car and auto loan for people with bad credit can be a challenge.  Lenders provide loans to people based on several criteria, though.  If you meet all of these elements, you will qualify for the lowest interest rate possible, therefore giving you the best loan available.  Yet, if you do not meet all of them, such as having a bad credit score, that doesn't mean you will not qualify for the loan.  Rather, the interest rate on the loan may be higher or you may be limited by the amount of money you can get through a loan.  If you know what the lending criteria of a lender is, you can make better decisions regarding how to get the right loan for you.

Getting an auto loan with bad credit is possible.  Here are some of the lending criteria that most car loan lenders look for in people they want to give loans to.
  • Your credit score:  Most lenders do look at your credit score because it is an indication of your ability to be responsible for a loan.  Some lenders will have a cut off level where they will not lend to people who have scores lower than certain levels (though each lender is different in where this number is.)  If your credit score is not good, the lender may be able to qualify you in other ways.
  • Your credit history:  Do you have experience with other secured loans in the past such as other auto loans or even a home mortgage loan?  If so, these lenders will take a look at how dependable you were with making those payments.  Even in times where a credit score is low, if you have made payments on your secured loans regularly, you still may qualify for a new loan.
  • Your income:  Lenders also will look at your income.  They base the amount of money they can lend you off of the amount of money you are making.  Lenders want to be sure you have the funds to make payments on these loans.  If you don't make enough to cover the debts you have, they are unlikely to lend to you.  But, if you do make enough, your poor credit score may not stop them from lending to you.
Since it is so important to consider all the options you have when applying for a car loan for people with bad credit, you definitely want to look for specialized companies.  Some lenders offer car loans that are specially designed for those who are struggling with low credit scores.  These loans often offer higher interest rates and the terms may be steep, but they do allow you to get the loan you need.  You can find these companies and applications for their services readily available to you online.

As you look at all the options you have, be sure to work on improving your credit during the process.  Make monthly payments you are required to and be sure you are working to improve the overall debt level you have by paying down as much as you can.  By doing this, you are showing lenders that your poor credit is in the past, not something affecting you now.  In the long term, you can improve virtually any credit score.  Yet, it also makes sense to do this during the application process for a new car loan because it shows lenders you are willing to work hard at the process.  Most lenders are willing to lend t those buyers that have poor credit, if they are working on improving that credit.
